Recently in Pennsylvania, a major investigation lead to the arrests of more than two dozen individuals. The investigation reached into two states, and the police are still looking for a handful of people suspected of delivering and selling drugs. At this point, 25 adults are facing drug charges and other criminal allegations, and there is a complaint against at least one juvenile connected with the case.
The investigation was so expansive that it involved several law enforcement groups from the state. Due to the fact that it crossed state lines, it also involved federal agencies and groups from neighboring states. According to the report, the investigation centered around operations related to the alleged trafficking and sale of substances that include heroin, marijuana, methamphetamine and fentanyl and more.
It is not immediately clear how each defendant was allegedly connected with the operation. It also appears that all of the cases are not necessarily connected with each other. Pennsylvania police say that they used undercover operations and the use of informants to gather evidence that eventually led to the rounding up and arrest of these individuals. With such a large operation and the complexity of the investigation, it may be wise for individuals charged to assess whether police followed proper procedures in the gathering of evidence and execution of warrants.
When facing drug charges, a person will want to take immediate action to protect his or her future interests. Each individual is guaranteed the presumption of innocence and the right to confront the charges brought by the prosecution. When developing a defense, it can help to start with a complete evaluation of the case and assessment of the legal options available to the individual defendant.
